Robert Shannon’s trading journey has been a winding one. Starting as a Texas rancher, he travelled extensively at the advice of his grandfather to see the world before Robert became set in his ways. A particular area that left a mark on Robert was his two years in South America, where he was exposed to poverty caused by the systemic imbalances created by one-sided trade agreements. This exposure lead Robert to pursue a degree in Economics, to the point of starting a PhD before he realized he enjoyed travelling far too much to be tied to a desk.

Description
Robert Shannon’s trading journey has been a winding one. Starting as a Texas rancher, he travelled extensively at the advice of his grandfather to see the world before Robert became set in his ways. A particular area that left a mark on Robert was his two years in South America, where he was exposed to poverty caused by the systemic imbalances created by one-sided trade agreements. This exposure lead Robert to pursue a degree in Economics, to the point of starting a PhD before he realized he enjoyed travelling far too much to be tied to a desk.
While trying his hand at winemaking with his significant other, Robert had a fateful game of golf that exposed him to the concepts of trading with none other than our own Matt Justice. A year and a half later, Robert is applying his economic knowledge to markets and chart reading in his day to day trading.
That aforementioned golf game wasn’t Robert’s last interaction with Matt, either. Since that time, Robert, Matt, and Tim routinely chat about trading, economics, the state of education, and more. In today’s episode, Tim & Matt discuss with Robert his trading journey, the importance of understanding economics, and how to improve financial literacy in the US today.
